Launched as a successor to the Carlton and Senator in 1994, the Omega was a cut-price BMW 5 Series. In fairness, it was very different to its ageing predecessors. It was all-new, right down to its extensive engine line-up (which ranged from a four-cylinder 2.0-litre petrol producing 116hp to a 211hp 3.0-litre V6).

The styling of these cars was generally similar to that of the Opel Commodore C, and later, the Opel Omega A/B. The fourth generation Holden Commodore models VE and VF, manufactured by Holden from 2006 until 2017, were entirely designed in-house and based on the Holden-developed, rear-wheel drive Zeta platform . With a stated weight at the kerb of 1535 kg, the Opel Omega 2.0 16v manages to cover the 0-100 km/h sprint in 11 seconds and the kilometre from rest in 32 seconds. Maximum stated speed is 210 km/h (130 mph), quoted fuel consumption figures are 13.2/7.1/9.3 l/100km urban/extra-urban/combined, and carbon dioxide emissions are 224.0 g/km. Full specs.
The 2.5 V6 was replaced by a 2.6-litre unit and in Spring 2001, the 3.0-litre V6 was replaced by a 3.2-litre unit. The entry-level 2.0-litre petrol engine was eventually dropped. The last Vauxhall Omega models were sold in the opening months of 2004. What You Get
The engine range was all-new: Four cylinder engines were a 2.0 L petrol and a 2.5 L BMW-sourced turbo-diesel which were reasonably refined and gave acceptable performance. But the V6 engines (2.5 L and 3.0 L) were a far better bet. The top of the range Omega, with the 3.0 L V6, was the most expensive Vauxhall/Opel on the market at £30,000.
